Someplace Safe Art Opening & Open House

This spring, University of Minnesota, Morris art students are learning the positive impact that art can have on a community, while honing their skills as artists and educators. Seven students in Michael Eble’s Beginning and Advanced Painting II classes, along with 12 students in Mrs. Sayles's kindergarten class at St. Mary's Catholic School in Morris, are in the process of producing paintings for the new Someplace Safe – Stevens County outreach office.

There will be a public opening and reception to unveil these new paintings in conjunction with an open house to introduce Someplace Safe's new location at 202 Atlantic Ave from 4:30-6:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 9. Refreshments will be served.

Walk A Mile in Her Shoes

Walk A Mile in Her Shoes: The International Men's March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault and Gender Violence.

In honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Someplace Safe of Stevens County is holding its 1st Annual Walk A Mile in Her Shoes Awareness Event! We are looking for Men & Boys in our community who are ready and willing to take a stand against violence and abuse against our Mothers, Wives, Sisters, Daughters and Friends, and to join us on a Walk through downtown Morris - in Women's Shoes!! Take a stand against Violence Against Women by Walking a Mile in Her Shoes!

All individuals and groups participating in the Walk A Mile Event are being asked to gather pledges to support their efforts to help end violence against women. The individual or group that secures the most in pledges will be recognized at a gathering following the walk.

All participants will receive a FREE T-shirt and Lunch. Lunch will also be available for a free-will donation to all others following the walk!! For more information, see this Walk A Mile PDF Document.


Stalking Awareness Month
January, 2008

January is National Stalking Awareness Month, a time to focus on a dangerous crime and seek ways to protect its victims. The Stalking Resource Center of the National Center for Victims of Crime is pleased to join our partner, the Office on Violence Against Women of the U.S. Department of Justice, in presenting a versatile set of resources to help you plan your 2009 National Stalking Awareness Month and your outreach throughout the year. We hope these tools will inspire your efforts to know, name, and stop stalking in your community.

UMM's Annual Take Back the Night Speak-out & March

The Speak-out begins at 7:00 p.m. at the Black Box Theater, located in the Humanities Fine Arts Building on the UMM campus. This will be a time to learn about resources available on campus and in the community, hear poems and music, and share stories of survival and empowerment. 1st Annual Day of Unity Event

Festivities will begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Common Cup Coffeehouse. This event is geared towards raising community awareness about domestic and relationship violence and the effects it can have, while working together to create a unified response to ending violence in our communities.
